THE LAST CRANKIE: This play (for 6 women) is a fun and funny romp set in a dystopian “near future.” It examines why, in these times of revisionist history, Great Literature must be protected. As told through the convention of “a story within a story, THE LAST CRANKIE speaks to themes of Corruption, Redemption, and Hope.  Please visit THE LAST CRANKIE website for more information.

SWEET GINGER: HOT & BLUE: Should America still be regarded as a “melting pot”, or is better considered as a cultural and ethnic “mosaic?” Ginger Chan, the teenage daughter of a Chinese immigrant, struggles against her father’s traditional expectations. Will her effort to define herself as she wishes succeed, or will it destroy what’s left of their family? A 95 year-old Jewish woman, a female Buddha, and the spirits of Ginger’s absent mother and dead brother complicate her attempt to reconcile a traditional past with an American present. This story is told from an Asian point of view. It incorporates elements and conventions found in Chinese theater. The style is magical-realism. (4W- 3 of whom are Asian, 2M- both Asian)

TO WALK IN TWO WORLDS: Two cultures: Orthodox Jewish and First Nation Ojibwa. An exploration of Tribalism that loosely parallels the Biblical story of Ruth. An impoverished widow, Naomi, has returned from southern Ontario, Canada, to her home community of Minneapolis, MN. Accompanying her are her daughter-in-law, Cricket, as well as the spirit of Cricket’s dead mother (an Ojibwa shaman, and Naomi’s long-time friend.) Once back in the Jewish fold of Minneapolis, the women confront traditional strictures. Can they circumvent, yet accommodate their respective Tribal ways, for the sake of the family? (4W- 2 of whom are mature, 1M- mature)

THE POWER OF TWO: Two young women in Poland 1943 struggle to overcome their prejudices in order to survive the Nazi occupation… or not. One is a Polish Catholic housewife who, against her will, is forced to shelter the other… a widowed escapee from the Warsaw Ghetto. This play explores issues of Humanity and Tolerance. (2W, 3M)

THE HAPPIER TRAIL is a magically realistic play written for three actors.
(1F, 1M and 1 horse… which is not gender specific.)
With the help of COOT, the proprietor of a Mall ride and his mechanical horse TONY, NATALIE, embarks on a mind-bending trip to confront her dead Mother. She wants to know “why” she has been deceived with constant lies …relating to herself, her past and her family. This fun and imaginative play addresses the toll exacted upon individuals in particular and society in general when prejudices and secrets are allowed to obscure our historical past, and keep us from knowing our true identities. Please visit THE HAPPIER TRAIL website (www.thehappiertrailtheplay.com) for more information.
